International Fame Lab In 2014

DPSA Hackathon September 2018

Coached 30 undergraduate and honours students to compete(in teams of five; hence, 6 teams) at the DPSA national hackathon from 28th to 30th September, 2018. Won second place with a prize of R 30,000.00 out of 45 teams.

2019 SITA Hackathon October 2019

Prof. Ade-Ibijola with his team of 15 students at the SITA NDP 2030 Hackathon, they won an all expense paid trip from the South African government to compete at the finals in a 3-day Hackathon held in Durban ICC from 24th to 26th October, 2019.

2019 SITA Hackathon October 2019

Won the Overall Best Innovation for the Local Government Category that came with a prize of R 100,000.00 and won the 3rd place for the Regional Government Category with a prize of R 30,000.00.

Innovation of the Year November 2019

Prof. Abejide Ade-Ibijola with Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Vice Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, receiving the Vice-Chancellor's Innovation of the Year Award for 2019 for his "Learn As You Earn" app. 

Innovation of the Year November 2019

Awarded along with Dr Marius Wait for the 'Innovation of the Year' award for the 'Learn As You Earn' app, a work-integrated, direct-selling app which allows students to use their smartphones or other devices to create a profile and access a range of services. In addition to generating income, the project also helps to develop entrepreneurial skills. Last year, 389 students generated a turnover of R 3 million with the total commission amounting to R750 000.

Top Senior Lecturer 2018

Prof. Abejide, winning the Dean's Award for the Top Senior Lecturer in the College of Business and Economics and the University of Johannesburg in 2018.

API Humanity Public Lecture February 2020

Prof. Ade-Ibijola with Musa Kalenga, at the UJ library speaking on "API Humanity: Interface between humans and machines in the Fourth Industrial Revolution". They had a great evening of conversation around the future of technology and humanity.

Distinguished Teacher Excellence Award 2020

Prof. Abejide Ade-Ibijola received the Vice-Chancellor's Distinguished Award for Teacher Excellence in November 2020. The nomination was based on the 'Teaching Nomination' project which he worked on with his team of 5 students. They created an avatar of Prof. Jide, that spoke in different languages, mimicked his voice and told jokes as well. This avatar was used to welcome his undergraduate students back to online learning in the second semester. Soon after, we got collaboration interests from Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Prof. Daneel van Lill, SABC Education and T&L (Augmented/Virtual Reality).

VC Awardee 2 Years in a Row

Prof. Abejide Ade-Ibijola has received yet another Vice Chancellor Award after receiving the 'Innovation of the Year' award in 2019. This year, 2020, he received the 'Teacher Excellence' award. On the left are the medals and certificates from 2019 and 2020.
